Rais Hamidou Knight of the Seas

Rais Hamidou, Knight of the Seas recounts the true story of Algiers’ hero, Rais Hamidou and introduces readers to Ottoman Algeria in its golden age. This work aims at providing an entertaining narrative on the social and political landscape of the country in the 18th century, from the secretive streets of the Casbah, clashing swords and Chebecs roaming the seas.

Selma Chergui is from Algeria. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from McGill University, and currently works as a project assistant for an NGO. Passionate about history and writing, she decided to make research about her country’s history before finally deciding to write her first book: Rais Hamidou, Knight of the Seas.
